All Fives (Muggins) rules

All Fives, also called Muggins or Fives, plays like regular dominoes with one twist: you score during the hand whenever the open ends add up to a multiple of five.

Setting up

  1. 1Use a double-six set. Two to four players, alone or in two teams.
  2. 2Deal seven tiles each with two players, or five each with three or four. The rest stay face down as the boneyard.
  3. 3The first player sets down any tile. After that, play goes around the table.

Scoring during the hand

After you play, add up the pips on all the open ends. If the total is 5, 10, 15 or 20, you score that many points.

The ends show 4 and 6. That's 10, so whoever made it scores 10.
A double on the end counts both halves: 5 + 5 + 5 = 15.

The first tile counts too. Lead the 5-5 or the 6-4 and you score 10 right away.

The spinner

Many tables play the first double as a spinner: tiles can go on all four of its sides, so there can be up to four open ends to add up.

The double-five spinner with four open ends: 3 + 2 + 4 + 6 = 15.

Drawing, going out and winning

  1. 1If you can't play, draw from the boneyard until you can. Pass only when it's empty.
  2. 2When someone goes out, they also score the pips left in the other hands, rounded to the nearest five.
  3. 3If the game blocks, the lowest hand scores the others' pips, rounded the same way.
  4. 4The first player or team to the target wins, usually 150 or 250.
