How many dominoes are in a set?

A standard double-six set has 28 dominoes. Bigger sets exist for bigger tables. Here's how they compare.

Every pair of numbers from 0 to 6 appears exactly once. That makes 28 tiles, including seven doubles from the double-blank to the double-six.

Each number shows up on seven tiles. Knowing that lets you work out who might still hold a number, which is the heart of good play.

A double-N set has (N + 1) × (N + 2) ÷ 2 tiles. For double-six: 7 × 8 ÷ 2 = 28.
